Olseen announces Senate bid

Chisago County Commissioner Rick Olseen of North Branch this week announced he would be a candidate for State Senate in District 17. ìMy experiences as a school board member and county commissioner have given me unique insight into local government,î Olseen said. ìBecause of my time on the North Branch School Board, I understand the difficult challenges facing our schools, including the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the Minnesota Graduation Standards, and basic skills testing. As a commissioner, I deal every day with issues affecting peopleís lives such as plowing the roads, overseeing the jail budget, planning and zoning issues in the townships, health and human services and other county government services. It is because of this background that I would like you to elect me as your State Senator. I believe Iíll represent our areaís concerns very effectively in the State Senate.î Rick and Bambi Olseen have lived in Sunrise Township for 21 years. They are the parents of daughters Cristina and Becki. He works part-time estimating truck and trailer repairs while serving District 2 on the Chisago County Board.
