Hutton says he will run for sheriff
Bill Hutton, an Oakdale Police Department captain and a former executive director of the Forest Lake Youth Service Bureau, has announced he will run for Washington County Sheriff this year. Hutton has more than 20 years of experience serving the people of the county in a range of police duties from community policing to patrol officer. ìYears of working investigations that brought me into contact with agencies and officers across the metro and the state have taught me the value of inter-agency collaboration,î Hutton said. ìI would build strong partnerships in Washington County.î Hutton, who has worked with the Oakdale department since 1983, comes from a family of police officers. His father, George Hutton, spent 34 years with the St. Paul Police Department, and a sister, Shannon Harrington, is a St. Paul officer. A nephew, Mark Nelson, is a St. Paul narcotics officer. Hutton earned a degree in public safety administration and education from St. Thomas in 2000 and is a graduate of the FBI National Academyís leadership training in 1997.
