The Ronald McDonald house of the Twin Cities will have to buy at least 10 gallons of milk to eat all 150 boxes of Girl Scout cookies donated to them by Girl Scout Troop 1360.
From January 14 through the 28, the Girl Scouts of the St. Croix Valley Troop number 1360 went door-to-door selling their famous Girl Scout cookies.
With almost every transaction if a person didnít want to buy a box of cookies, the girls would ask if the customer would like to donate a box to the Ronald McDonald house.
Troop 1360, which has 24 eight and nine year old girls, ended up collecting 150 boxes of cookies that will be donated to the Ronald McDonald house.
The girls who participated in the cookie event will receive a ìGift of Caringî patch for their sash.
For the girls involved, being able to donate the cookies means more to them than just getting a patch.
ìMaybe some of those kids might not live very long and it would be my pleasure to make their day shine bright,î Amanda Hennen said.
Allison Long thought donating the cookies was, ìa good idea because it might make them feel better because they know people actually care about them.î
Several of the other girls wanted to donate the cookies to make the kids at the Ronald McDonald house feel better.
ìWith all theyíve been through, they deserve them,î Kassandra Murphy said.
Unfortunately, the girls will not be able to personally bring the cookies down to the house.
The Ronald McDonald house requires people who visit to be at least 14 years old, who are unrelated to the person they are visiting, because of health safety issues.
Instead, the ìCookie Momî Azalea Mecham will be delivering the cookies herself on March 18.
Although the girls are not able to see the people they are helping, they did get a formal thank you from Ronald.
ìEach girl was sent a thank you letter from Meagan Estle of the Ronald McDonald house,î Azalea Mecham said. ìThe girls were also given a ëthank youí from Ronald in a video that weíll be watching tonight.î
The Girl Scouts will continue to sell cookies at several booths around Forest Lake. To find out where the booths are or more about the Girl Scouts of the St. Croix Valley visit www.girlscoutscv.org.
