Kelly continues to shine on golf links
Betsy Kelly continues to shine on the golf course and her coach, Joel Hall, believes she can only get better.
Kelly was Forest Lakeís top golfer at the Red Wing Invitational on May 9, shooting an 11-over-par 83 to tie for eighth place in a tournament that rivals the state golf meet for caliber of play.
On Monday at Hillcrest, Kelly shot 80 to finish fourth in the Hill-Murray Pioneer Invite. Forest Lake shot 377 to finish third in the team standings, 14 shots back of Woodburyís 363.
Ashley Weeda shot 97, Mallorey Messin 99 and Laurel Pelton 100 to round out Forest Lakeís top players, Hall said.
In last weekís visit to Red Wing, Forest Lake finished ninth as a team, shooting 363. Burnsville won it with 329 while host Red Wing was second with 341.
ìWe had an off day,î Hall said. ìIt was good to see how our girls stacked up.î
Hall said his team is now ready for the final push. On Wednesday, May 24, Forest Lake will begin Section 7AA play at Eagle Ridge in Grand Rapids. The tourney is a two-day, 36-hole event.
The top team and top five individuals who are not on the winning team advance to the state golf tournament. The Section 7AA tourney is played in two days.
Teams and individuals making the cut on May 24 will return to Grand Rapids on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 for the final round of golf.
