Railroad book authors at Giese Library May 20

The authors of a book detailing the history of the railroad line that once connected Wyoming and Taylors Falls will visit the Giese Memorial Library in Wyoming on Saturday. Richard Thompson and Steve Monson, co-authors of ìThe Taylors Falls & Lake Superior Railroad,î will speak at 11 a.m. Saturday in the conference room of the library. The Giese Memorial Library is located next door to the Wyoming Community Center.

Books will be available for purchase and the authors will be autographing copies. The book is a detailed written account of the old railroad that once ran from Wyoming east to Taylors Falls. The line was built in 1880 and continued to operate until 1948 when the tracks were taken up. The 260-page book spans 17 chapters and is richly illustrated with 180 historical photographs, 30 drawings of depots and bridges, and numerous reproductions of charts, stock certificates, train tickets, railroad passes, maps and advertising.
