Wyoming Town Board hears police update

Wyoming Township officials have been updated on Chisago County funding plans for the Wyoming Police Department.

County Commissioner Ben Montzka was present at the Wyoming Town Board meeting May 9th to explain the proposal from the County to purchase mobile data computer systems for city squad cars and reimburse the city for initial training, equipment and uniform expenses related to an officerís participation with the countyís SWAT team.

The cost of the MDCs will be $60,000 and the SWAT program reimbursement to the police department will be up to $3400. North Branch and the Lakes Area police departments have also been offered participation in this program.

The money for these expenses will come out of the County Sheriffís budget.

Applewood Farm Nursery has applied for a variance for an 80 square foot sign instead of the 30 square feet allowed with a 150 foot set back.

The Wyoming Township Planning Commission found no problem with the request and also obtained an OK from the Minnesota Department of Transportation with a condition the sign not be more than 15 feet in height.

The town board approved the variance noting that if US-8 is expanded in the future, the sign will have to be moved.

A joint meeting with Wyoming city employees for an emergency management program is still in the process of being set up.

The Super America station has asked to renew its liquor license. The town board granted this request.

The town board authorized signing the joint powers agreement concerning the Rushline Corridor.

Commissioner Montzka reminded the audience that this will involve heavy rail, not light rail, and said he was told the project might not get started for another twenty years.

It was reported that four interested parties queried the township regarding gravel bids but only one was received.

The town board accepted the $740 per ton delivery price bid from Dresel Trucking of Forest Lake.

Byron Olson (public works) reminded the town board they had appointed him to a Chisago County committee on public health and he will be attending a functional exercise regarding pandemic influenza. Town Board Chair Roger Elmore said he would also be attending this exercise.

Board members all signed ìThank Youî letters to outgoing planning commission members Loyal Hyatt and Ed Olson.

The date for the township/city consolidation hearing in Ramsey County District Court is still set for May 31.
