Neighborhood watch foils burglary

The arrest of two men in Forest Lake last week is being hailed as a positive result of a neighborhood crime watch at its best.

Chief of Police Clark Quiring said the actions of a fast-thinking neighbor who took the time to report suspicious behavior helped officers here make the arrest.

Police were called to 23877 Forest Blvd. N. at 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 27 when a neighbor saw two men entering a home. The neighbor told police that no one was at home.

At the scene, police found signs of a forced-entry burglary, Quiring said.

A short time later, officers responding to the call detained two men walking south of the Hardwood Creek Trail near NW 2nd Avenue.

The two brothers, ages 19 and 17, are both from Ham Lake.

They were taken into custody for formal charges that could include second-degree burglary, giving false information to police and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Quiring said the arrests would not have taken place if the neighbor hadn't taken the time to alert authorities.

Safe & Sober

Officers in Forest Lake this week concluded a month-end series of Safe & Sober saturation patrols on heavily traveled city, county and state roads in Forest Lake.

The extra details were funded in part with state grant dollars, the chief said.

The saturation patrols resulted in numerous traffic stops and netted more than 20 citations for speeding, illegal turns and failure to use seat belts.
