With a fifth place finish in the Section 4AA cross country meet, the boys cross country team ended another solid season against a field that is packed with talented runners who crank out the miles.

ìItís a tough meet,î coach Deno Johnson said after seeing his top runner, Ben Brodin, race to a personal best time of 16:58.17, which was good enough for 21st place. ìIt is such a tough meet.

ìWe got beat by four teams (Stillwater, Mounds View, Roseville and Andover), you know, it was the right result. They were definitely better than us.î

While no one from Forest Lake will be making it to state, Johnson was pleased with the effort he got from Brodin and the rest of the team.

ìHe was really pushing hard,î he said of Brodinís 5:28 per mile average. ìThey (the lead runners) went out hard and he went out with them.î

Following Brodin was Zach Waldoch in 34th place with a time of 17:20.62, and then came a group of Rangers led by Seamus Glewwe.

Glewwe was in 46th place (17:36.97), Spencer Cossalter in 47th (17:38.97) and Nathan Moen in 48th place at 17:39.02.

Rounding out the top seven finishers for Forest Lake was Zach Clark with a time of 17:50.62 and Ryan Wright at 17:52.02.

ìWe got Ryan Wright, once againî Johnson said. ìTwo minutes and five seconds faster than last year. Iím not kidding. I donít think Iíve seen a kid have that kind of improvement.î

Johnson hopes his returning runners work in the off-season because he would like to see the Rangers in the top two next fall.

ìYou got to have goals,î he said.
