It was a case of a safe to go during a burglary at a Forest Lake pizza shop last week.
Papa Murphyís, 2009 W. Broadway Ave., reported a forced-entry burglary to Forest Lake police at 9 a.m. on Nov. 18.
According to police reports, a back door to the Papa Murphyís was forced open and someone stole the store safe. A desk tower personal computer was also taken, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said this week.
Police this week were still collecting information and were not certain the extent of the total loss to the business and the damage to property.
Police said the forced-entry burglary likely took place during the night time hours after the shop had closed for business on Friday, Nov. 17.
Vehicles rifled
Chief Quiring is reminding car and truck owners in the city once again to remove all valuables from vehicles parked outside and to make sure the vehicle is locked.
The chief said the department received a half dozen reports from the weekend where vehicles at scattered locations in the city were rifled.
He said loose change was taking but no other items are believed missing.
In each case, the vehicle had not been locked, he said.
Water problems
City officers were also called a handful of times during the past week to assist the cityís water department after a number of main breaks.
Quiring and Mike Tate, public works director for the city, said four main breaks were reported with the initial calls coming in to the police who in turn notified the city water department.
City crews were dispatched to make repairs.
In a number of cases, Quiring said home and business owners called police to notify authorities that they had no water.
Two water main breaks were reported in the northwest and southeast quadrants and a third was reported at S. Lake St. (US-61) and 8th Ave.
The public also reported that a fire hydrant in the 700 block of SW 12th St. was blowing water.
Tate said the breaks were due in part to frost movement in the ground and pressure changes caused as a result of the new well coming on line this fall.
The city recently notified many water customers by mail of the new well activation and the pressure change.
