What can you do with a knife, sand paper and piece of wood? Well, practically anything if you belong to the Lakes Area Woodcarvers.
Over 100 local residents participate in this club that takes carving wood to a whole other level.
From life-like fish to whimsical houses the Lakes Area Woodcarvers can take any old block of wood and turn it into a work of art.
In an effort to showcase their art and get other residents involved in their craft the woodcarvers will be displaying their art on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Northland Mall in Forest Lake.
Area woodcarvers will not only show off the work theyíve completed but some carvers will have pieces available for purchase.
The Wild Life Science Center, from Forest Lake, will be at the show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday with their ìBirds of Prey.î
The group meets every Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Forest Lake Senior Center. The weekly meetings allow the carvers to hone in on their skills by practicing weekly. Knives and gloves are provided by the group for people who are just stopping by to try woodcarving out. Anyone is welcome to join the group.
Then on the last Thursday of every month the Lakes Area Woodcarvers meets again, usually with the full group of people.
