Charges filed in FL copper theft

Formal charges have now been filed in Washington County against two men who are accused of stealing copper and brass fittings from a construction site in Forest Lake last month. Ronald J. Kies, 46, of Dalbo, and Gary L. Kies, 43, of Monticello, face felony charges of aiding and abetting receiving stolen property, aiding and abetting possession of burglary or theft tools and possession or use of a police radio during commission of a crime. Ronald Kies also faces one court of fifth-degree controlled substance crime involving methamphetamine. During a court hearing on Oct. 20, bail was set at $20,000 for Ronald Kies and $5000 for Gary Kies. Gary Kies was released from the Washington County Jail in Stillwater on Oct. 26. Additional court dates will take place in November and December. The theft took place on Oct. 19 at the Lakes International Language Academy construction site. The brothers were arrested later that day in Hugo by Forest Lake police who were acting on a tip.
