The Columbus Red, White and Blue team came close to a sweep Tuesday, but Jeff Duraine spoiled the party by claiming one of two two-year city council terms, knocking off Myron Organ.

Duraine, an arson investigator for the St. Paul Fire Department, joined Mayor Mel Mettler and council candidates Renae Fry, Mark Walsh and Denny Peterson as winners in the city vote that saw 2121 ballots cast.

Mettler defeated Mike Wood for the two-year mayorís term, 1110 to 840.

Duraine was the top overall vote getter in the election with 1247 votes. Peterson was second with 833 votes. Organ was eliminated with 814 votes.

In the race for the two four-year terms on the council, Renae Fry picked up 1129 votes to claim one seat while Mark Walsh was second with 971. Dave Povolny received 920 votes and was eliminated.

The team of Mettler, Fry, Walsh, Peterson and Organ ran under the Red, White and Blue banner. All five were elected in a special vote earlier this fall.
