Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7 the voices for change spoke loud and clear when Stev Stegner was elected the new Mayor of Forest Lake.

Stegner beat his opponents, incumbent Mayor Terry Smith and challenger Greg Vukich in all five of the Forest Lake precincts with votes totaling 4115. Smith followed behind with 3023 votes and Vukich at 333, respectively.

While Stegner was out and about celebrating Tuesday evening he commented that he knows he has a lot of work ahead of him but he was ìlooking forward to getting my feet wet.î

ìForest Lake is a wonderful place and it is only going to get better,î Stegner said.

The new mayor of Forest Lake will officially take his seat at the start of the new year in 2007.

This was Stegnerís first bid for elective office in Forest Lake.

CITY COUNCIL RACE

With only 68 votes separating the two, incumbent council member Susan Young and Bo Bogotty were each elected to serve the city of Forest Lake in a 4-year council position.

Young topped the votes at 3130 and Bogotty closely followed at 3062 votes.

Barbara Sterns received 2298 votes, Paul Smieja earned 2140 and Joseph Will, who withdrew his candidacy shortly after filing for the position, even received 1119 votes.

While Young has spent the last four years on the council, this will be Bogottyís first term on the city council.

Incumbent Greg Ochs received a total of 3374 votes to continue the remaining two-year council position he was appointed to when Dick Tschida resigned late last winter.

Bruce Anderson followed Ochs with 2010 votes and Earnest Caine received 1283 votes.

All the new council members will take over their position at the start of 2007.
