Hutton defeats Washington County Sheriff Pott; Reiter is new Chisago County Attorney

Steve Pottís tenure as Washington County Sheriff is coming to a close. Oakdale Police Capt. Bill Hutton, a former director of the Forest Lake Youth Service Bureau, knocked off the sheriff in a close race on Tuesday.

With all Washington County precincts reported early Wednesday, the unofficial results showed Hutton with a very slim lead over Pott, 44,435 to 44,301.

District 52

In two legislative races that span most of Washington County and a small area of Anoka County, two Forest Lake Republicans won seats.

Rep. Ray Vandeveer of Forest Lake was successful in his bid to move to the State Senate. Vandeveer topped DFL candidate David Francis of Stillwater, 21,472 to 19,455, with 33 of 33 precincts reported.

In the House 52A race, first-time candidate Bob Dettmer, a high school teacher in Forest Lake, defeated DFL candidate Rob Rapheal, a Forest Lake school board member, 10,791 to 8794, with 12 of 12 precincts reported.

County Attorney

In Chisago County, Janet Reiter won her bid to become the next county attorney. Reiter defeated Tim Ryan to win the four-year post.

With all 24 country precincts reported early Wednesday, Reiter won the contest with a 9864 to 8763 margin over Ryan.
