Pott wins sheriff's primary; Hutton is 2nd

Washington County Sheriff Steve Pott was the top vote getter in the Tuesday primary election for sheriff and earned a place on the Nov. 7 ballot. Pott was first in the three-candidate race, collecting 9951 votes with 86 of the 87 voting precincts reported Tuesday evening. Pott received 48.6 percent of the vote.

Finishing second in the contest and also advancing to the Nov. 7 general election ballot was Bill Hutton. He received 6898 votes or 33.7 percent of the total. Pete Crum was third in the race, collecting 17.6 percent of the vote with 3610 ballots in his favor. He is now eliminated from the race.
