Candidates in line for Nov. 7 Columbus vote

The filing period for the November municipal election ended at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, and barring any last-minute entries, these are the eight candidates for the City of Columbus. For the position of mayor, it will be a repeat of the two-person race that just ended for the special election. Long-standing Columbus Town Board Chairman, Mel Mettler, will run against newcomer Mike Wood.

The candidates who filed for city council member are also a familiar group: Renae Fry, Mark Walsh, Dennis Peterson, Myron Organ, Geff Duraine and David Povolny. Fry, Walsh and Povolny are seeking the two 4-year terms, while Organ, Duraine and Peterson are running for the two 2-year terms. Those persons selected from the just-completed special election will serve at-large until Jan. 1, 2007. At that point, the winners from the Nov. 7 vote will begin terms.
