District asked to use more bids
A Forest Lake man has asked ISD 831 to return to a policy of using sealed bids for most purchases. Dennis Kessler Sr. went before the school on Sept. 7 and appealed to the board to return to the formal bidding process. State law changes over the years have relaxed bidding rules. Now, governmental agencies are required by law to seek sealed bids for purchases estimated to exceed $50,000. For purchases under the $50,000, units of government may obtain price quotes for final approval by elected officials. Kessler appealed to the board to protect the best interests of taxpayers by using sealed bids to obtain the best prices possible. Board President Bill Bresin said the administration would review the request and report to the school board.
