US-8 receives dubious distinction
A dubious distinction has been bestowed upon US-8, an infamous stretch of highway in Minnesota from Forest Lake east to the Wisconsin border at Taylors Falls. The highway was voted one of the four worst roads in the state, according to a public opinion poll conducted at the Minnesota State Fair this year. Also on the list were the following roads: TH-14 from Mankato to Rochester, TH-65 in Anoka and Isanti counties, and US-10 from Elk River to St. Cloud. The poll was sponsored by the Highway Construction Industry Council, the Associated General Contractors of Minnesota and the Minnesota Transportation Alliance. Participants in the contest cited the need for highway expansion, congestion and dangerous conditions as reasons for their votes.
