Coming off a first place finish at the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational, the boys cross country team was unable to use that win to catapult them into the top three at the St. Francis Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 14. The boys came in fourth, with 121 points to Andoverís first place total of 44.
ìI think, overall, the guys need to run just more aggressively from the half-way point (of the race),î head coach Deno Johnson said.
ìI guess the story from our last meet was the JV is really closing in on our five, six and seven runners,î he said.
In three meets this season the junior varsity has run away with two firsts and one second. Sophomore Andrew Orth has already moved up to varsity, and then finished in the top 40 last week with a time of 17:08, just one spot behind classmate Nick Kelly and his run of 17:05.
Leading the way for the Rangers was the familiar duo of senior Zach Clark and junior Ben Brodin. Clark was in 10th place with a time of 16:21, while Brodin was close behind at 16:26, which was good enough for 14th.
The boys will compete in the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, and that means more teams and more competition.
ìOur kids, they get faster every race,î Johnson said. ìIn the end, weíll be fine.î
