Rangers go 1-1 in girls soccer action

If only. If only Forest Lake could dismiss the first two minutes of its Sept. 14 game against Stillwater, then the girls soccer team could be feeling much better about last week. Instead of a 3-0 loss to the Ponies, and a 1-0 double overtime win over Irondale, the Rangers might be talking about a 2-game winning streak. The only problem is that those two minutes do exist, and Stillwater was able to notch two goals in that brief amount of time.
ìThe first two minutes were really bad,î head coach Jenny Hollaren said. ìOur girls just had a hard time pulling it together.î
Thatís definitely not the way to start a game against a team Hollaren believes her players can beat. Especially when the rest of the night it looked like Forest Lake was the superior team.
ìWe pretty much, I felt, dominated the rest of the game. We just could not score,î Hollaren said.
ìWeíre not aggressive enough to get the ball behind the net, but weíre working on it.î
The Rangers did regroup on Saturday, and even though their performance was less than inspired, according to Hollaren, the girls did manage to beat Irondale, 1-0 in double overtime.
The solitary goal came off an indirect kick, when junior Abbie Paulson - whoís been on a tear lately - started things off, and junior Christy Newell was able to finish the play when she kicked it in for the win.
Hollaren admits that this week is a tough one for her squad as they travel to White Bear Lake and Park before getting a rematch with Stillwater on Saturday.
