The Forest Lake boys soccer team continues to play well, but after committing a few mistakes against the No. 5 ranked Stillwater Ponies in a 3-1 loss, the crisp passing and solid performance by the Rangers means little in the win column.

On Thursday, Sept. 14, Forest Lake returned to the scene of last yearís wonderful 2-0 upset victory, and for a moment it looked like they might repeat the feat.

The Rangers scored first after senior forward Merim Havalac got the ball to captain Bryce Bengston, who then sent a crossing pass in front of the net. A few players werenít able to control the ball, which is when sophomore Jeremy Stiner knocked it in for the 1-0 lead.

ìOffensively, especially, we were moving the ball the way we wanted,î head coach Shaun Conley said.

However, one minute later, Stillwater capitalized on Forest Lakeís first mistake and converted a turnover into the equalizer. A penalty kick put the Ponies up 2-1 before halftime, and then they scored the insurance goal late in the game.

ìWe played well against the top team in our conference, and I was very happy with the way the guys played,î Conley said.

ìWe just couldnít put another one in the back of the net.î

The Rangers had another tough contest with an away game on Tuesday against White Bear Lake, and then travel to Park on Thursday.
