College game suits Robertson just fine
A year after he led the Forest Lake Rangers basketball team in scoring, Nate Robertson has moved on to UW River Falls and accomplished the same feat for the Falcons.
In the process, Robertson was the team leader in rebounds, blocked shots and steals, which resulted in him being named to the DIII News All-Freshmen team as well as earning honorable mention to the 2007 All-WIAC (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
Robertson, a 6-7 forward, finished the season with a 14.6 per game scoring average, while pulling in an average of seven boards. He totalled 43 blocked shots, 28 steals and 23 assists. On the season, Robertson was 142-248 (.573) from the field and 80-139 (.576) from the line.
Being a starter for 25 games, the Forest Lake grad scored in double digits in 20 contests, led the team in rebounding 14 times and had double digit rebounds six times. On two occasions, Robertson was the team leader in assists, and set the tone on defense when he led the Falcons in steals in nine games.
Robertson scored a career-high 26 points twice — in a game against Macalester College on Nov. 25, and in a game against Whitewater on Feb. 10. He also had a career-high 15 rebounds in the game against Macalester.
All in all, Robertson finished seventh in scoring, sixth in rebounding, second in field goal shooting percentage and third in blocks in the WIAC.
Adding to the list of accolades, Robertson was named the Falcon’s Player of the Week on Feb. 12, Jan. 29 and Nov. 27.
He and teammate Jontae Koonkaew were two of only three freshmen to be named to the first team, or earn All-WIAC honorable mention.
“It’s great to see that Nate and Jontae have been recognized by the coaches in the league for their overall play,” Falcon Coach Jeff Berkhof said.
“As freshmen, they adjusted to the college game very well and were two of our better players. They both have very bright futures and will be counted on to be two of our mainstays in the upcoming years.”
The Falcons finished 10-16 overall and 5-11 in the WIAC.
