2007-2008 school calendar set
The next school calendar in ISD 831 is set, sort of. By a 6-1 vote on March 29, the school board adopted the calendar for the 2007-2008 school year. The new calendar is contingent on the state approving a Q Comp teacher payment plan that would fund three additional teacher-training days in August. If the funding is OK’d, the entire teaching staff would report for three new training days on Aug. 20. Newly hired teachers would report for their first day of duty on Aug. 13. If the Q Comp plan is not approved, the three days of training would be dropped and new teachers would report on Aug. 20. The lone dissenter in the vote was member Eric Langness would wanted holidays named for the observance. An attempt to require the calendar to show the dates failed on a 5-2 vote with Langness and David Gay in favor. The majority preferred to leave the holiday designation generic. The first day of school will be Sept. 4 with the last day of school for students June 5, 2008. Superintendent Lynn Steenblock said there have been protests over the spring break dates of March 28 to April 6, 2008. He said the plan for future years might warrant switching the break to an earlier date to accommodate parents who prefer an earlier break.
