Faith Lutheran plans to 2 sessions on peace in Iraq

Faith Lutheran Church will host a Faith/Forest Lake community discussion on the Iraq War on Sunday, April 15th and Sunday, April 22nd in the newly completed education wing of Faith Lutheran, 886 North Shore Drive. Both sessions are slated from 10:15-11:15 a.m.

The public is invited to join the gathering.

For the past month a few members of Faith have been participating in a “Call to Conversation on Iraq.”

The four sessions used resources on peace, terrorism and Jewish and Muslim religions. The sessions were requested of each of the 6000 plus Lutheran congregations in the United States by the presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mark Hanson.

The resources were suggested by Bishop Hanson and are available on the web,

Some time was spent at each of the four sessions addressing ideas and information in the resources and sharing ideas and concerns.

Judge David Doyscher served as an International Judge in Kosovo for six months a couple of years ago and was part of the study group.

Judge Doyscher reminded the gathering of the difficulty in establishing peaceful relations among diverse groups, many who have long standing animosity.

One of the resources suggested that our tasks include a commitment to a culture of peace; support of av economy with justice and an awareness of the importance of the politics of cooperation.

“We are looking forward to having others in the Faith/Forest Lake Community join us on April 15th and April 22nd,” said Gwen Hansen, one of the organizers.

Anyone wishing to have the web addresses for the resources used at Faith, may call Faith Lutheran, 651-464464-3323, and ask for the Education Director Cathy Nelson.

The resources are not necessary to participate in the discussion.
