Ponies down Ranger synchronized team

It must be in the water.

On top of the success of the Stillwater swimming and diving teams, they also possess one of the state’s top synchronized programs. As Tuesday, March 27 showed, even though Forest Lake may be closing the gap, the Ponies are most certainly still in the lead.

In the varsity figures meet, Stillwater picked up the first three positions before senior Alissa Moberg got the Rangers on the board in fourth place.

“This is her first time leading the Rangers in figures,” head coach Laura Davison shared.

Moberg’s teammates and fellow seniors, Carrie Peterson and Frances VanSloan, came in fifth and seventh place, respectively.

Despite the 21-8 final score, Davison was pleased with her team’s results.

“I am very proud of how the girls performed at this meet,” she noted. “Stillwater is a good team and we are able to place against them. Not all teams can do that.”

Looking beyond the total numbers, Davison also pointed out how tight Forest Lake made it on their opponents.

The scores were very close with only one and a half points separating third through 10th place.

In the junior varsity meet, the numbers and the order were similar, but 7th grader Kristen Sewall was able to come in second for Forest Lake.

In the 19-10 loss, senior Andrea Gaytan was the next Ranger, earning fifth place, and freshman Erin Liljedahl rounded out the top scores with a seventh place finish.

The synchronized team has a bit of a break before traveling to Columbia Heights on Tuesday, April 10 for its final figures-only meet of the season.
