Shafer man hurt when boat burns on Bone Lake

A Shafer man lost his boat and suffered burns when his craft caught fire as he attempted to launch the boat in Bone Lake on Sunday. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Brent Newton, 43, was attempting to start the engine when it backfired and set the boat ablaze. Newton and a fishing partner were at the Bone Lake public boat landing on N. 238th St. at 11:36 a.m. when the craft caught fire. Newton was taken to Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming where he was treated for burns. His fishing partner was not injured. After catching fire, the boat drifted away from the dock. Scandia Fire & Rescue was called to the scene and put out the fire. Scandia firefighters were forced to work while in the water to put out the fire. (Photo By Erik Thompson)
