A dozen ways to enjoy Relay for Life
The Forest Lake Relay for Life has many opportunities available for community members who are not participating in the Relay.
Between an on-stage hair cutting ceremony to a silent auction to T-shirt sales, Relay for Life has many ways for the community to enjoy the race.
Forest Lake Relay for Life Chair Nancy Rosman lists a dozen ways to enjoy Relay without participating in the race.
1. A Survivors Tent will be located east of the Silent Auction tents. A “survivor” is anyone who has had a diagnosis of cancer. All survivors are encouraged to sign-in and ring the bell. A small gift will be given to each survivor.
2. The information Tent provides answers to all the public’s questions about “how to do” Relay. The Information Tent will be located outside of the fence and in front of the Concession Stand. A campsite location map will also be available there.
3. The Sales Table is the place to buy extra T-shirts, raffle and breakfast tickets and more. The table will be located across from the Silent Auction tents. Return completed HOPE bingo cards here to receive your prize.
4. A Silent Auction will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Incredible items await your bid. Don’t forget your checkbook.
5. Concession Stand will be provided by Terese Engquist again this year. Reasonable prices for delicious foods. All profits go to our Relay.
6. Market Place-- Teams or individuals continue fund raising along the walkway or at their campsites. Stroll around and see what you can find. Items in the past have included massages, glow-in-the-dark items, woodworking items, magnets, candles, pillows, etc.
7. Games Area for kids of all ages are available for a small fee. Team FLY will be hosting the Games Area, which include all-time favorites like face painting, putt-putt golf, bean bag toss, and more. Prizes given for every game.
Also in the Games Area will be the Hot Dagos’ Hair Dye station and Treat Walk (just like a Cake Walk, but you win pop and chips and wonderful stuff). The Games Area is located across from the Main Stage near the fence and is open from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
8. Posters from the Elementary Poster Contest will be displayed on the track fence, 6-9 p.m.
9. Believe in HOPE banner may be signed by anyone touched by cancer. The banner will be kept and displayed at future Relays.
10. Drawing for the cruise will occur at 10 p.m. on Friday night.
11. Musical Entertainment is schedule all evening. Come, sit and relax to some of the best music in town for free.
12. Pancake Breakfast provided by the Masons from 7 am to noon on Saturday after the Relay. The Pancake Breakfast is held at the Masonic Lodge across from Marketplace Foods. This breakfast is for the whole community.
Tickets are available for advance sales or at the door.
