Drumline lessons in August
Join the fun at Drumline's summer clinics. On Mondays, Aug. 13, 20 and 27 from 6-9 p.m. at Forest Lake High School, students can learn everything they need to know. No commitment or experience necessary.
FLAAA meets on 2nd Tuesday
The FLAAA holds its regular monthly meeting the second Tuesday of each month at The Cornerstone in Wyoming at 7 p.m. Questions about the FLAAA or meetings call Terri or Larry Porter at 651-464-8094. The next meeting is Tuesday, August 14.
Football Booster's golf tourney
The Forest Lake Football Booster Club is hosting its Seventh Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Chisago Lakes Golf Club. Sign up sheets can be found at www.forestlakefootball.org, or contact Dave and Tara Schultz at 612-282-8451. If anyone is interested in dinner only, tickets may be purchased for $15. Come for dinner and bid on our silent auction items.
Boys outdoor adventure camp
The Youth Service Bureau is offering a four-day outdoor adventure boy’s camp August 20-23 for boys entering 4th through 6th grades. The camp will be held at Camp Lakamaga on Big Marine Lake near Scandia. The cost for the camp is $140, where the boys will learn how to start fires with flint and steel, cook a meal on a fire, use compasses to find their way in the woods, build survival shelters, shoot bow and arrow, canoe or kayak, fish, and much more. This year the YSB has added an overnight stay on the last night. The boys will have a campfire and sleep in Mongolian style Yurts. A limited number of spots are available. Tee up for Hospice golf benefit
Registration is now open for the 19th annual Tee Up for Hospice golf benefit event this year, set for Monday, Aug. 20 at 4 p.m., at the Chisago Lakes Golf Course in Lindstrom. The traditional nine-hole shotgun scramble is open to individual golfers or five-person teams playing in mens, womens or mixed team categories (mixed teams must have at least two women) The fund-raising event is hosted by Fairview Lakes HomeCaring & Hospice, with proceeds going to support the un-reimbursed volunteer and bereavement components of hospice care and Camp Triumph, a grief camp for kids. Registration forms are available at local golf courses and at Fairview Chisago Lakes Clinic in Chisago City. The $55 donation includes nine holes of golf, a delicious picnic supper and a chance at many prizes, including hole-in-one prizes of a 2007 Ford Explorer, sponsored by Plastic Products of Lindstrom, and a Weeres Pontoon Boat and 25 hp Mercury motor, sponsored by Frankie’s Bait and Marine in Chisago City. Two golfers are guaranteed to win a $250 savings bond donated by Lake Area Bank and $250 in gasoline from Wally Carlson & Sons BP. 3-on-3 basketball league
The 3rd annual Forest Lake 3-on-3 fall basketball league at Forest Lake High School will run Sunday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on September 9, 16, 23, 30, and Oct. 7. The league is open to boys and girls in 4th – 12th grade. Registration cost is $35 and includes T-shirts and two games per night. Registrations will be handled online at www.midwest3on3.com. Girls cross country alumni meet
The girls cross country team will be hosting its first Alumni Meet on Thursday, Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m. on the Century Jr. High Track. The distance is a 3000m race or 7.5 times around the track as to provide the coaches with an accurate assessment of the athletes VO2 maximum (intake of oxygen, output of carbon dioxide). The meet will be scored just like any other meet. Varsity vs. Alumni. A traveling trophy will be presented to the winning team and returned each year. The cost is nothing as long as you participated in girls cross country. All participants in the race will receive a Forest Lake Girls Cross Country T-shirt. Those not participating in the race can purchase a T-shirt for $10. Sting 92 and Holien take 3rd
Incoming Forest Lake High School sophomore Sammy Holien was part of the Minnesota Sting 92 softball team that took third place at the 14-and-under AFA National Fastpitch Softball Tournament. Sting 92 went 5-0 in bracket play with a total run differential of 34-0.
Bengston competes in Argentina
Forest Lake native Jordan Bengston, a sophomore at Augsburg College, will be among 27 mens soccer players traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina for an 11-day training and competition trip in early August. Twenty-seven players, along with five Augsburg staff members and several parents and family members, are traveling to Buenos Aires from Aug. 3-14. Team members raised money for the past year to pay for the trip, the first international trip in the Augsburg men’s soccer team’s history. There will be daily updates, student-athlete diaries and photos from the Argentina trip available on Augsburg’s website—www.augsburg.edu/athletics/.
YSB's Teen Game Time
Attention all youth entering grades 7 through 9 this fall: The Youth Service Bureau has a great opportunity for you to keep busy and have fun this summer. Come and check out Teen Game Time. The YSB has an Xbox with cool video games, air hockey, board games and activity collaborations with the Forest Lake Rangers 4-H Club. There is no charge for admission and no need to pre-register.
