Lynn Steenblock, superintendent of schools in ISD 831, has been granted a $3600 pay-for-performance bonus. The school board on Aug. 2 voted 4-2 with one member absent to award the compensation as provided in the superintendent’s contract. The $3600 is 90 percent of the $4000 maximum Steenblock can receive based on goals and evaluations of the board members. Members Eric Langness and David Gay opposed the increase at this time, saying they wanted more time to review individual comments made by each member but not available last week. Langness said he was also opposed because the staff welfare committee met without his knowledge on July 30 to finalize its recommendation. The meeting had been posted as required by law. The bonus was based in part on Steenblock’s strong performance in the areas of the five-year curriculum review process, the district operating levy and strategic planning.
