Talk about a head scratcher. On Thursday, Feb. 8, the girls hockey team opened section play with a home game against Proctor, but ended up having to swallow the proverbial bitter pill.

While the Rangers already owned a 7-3 victory over their opponent from the very first game of the season, the rematch would go in favor of the Mirage as Forest Lake's season would end with a 3-1 loss.

"It was one of those games where I thought we did anything and everything we could to win the game," head coach Paul Kendrick said.

The Mirage broke a scoreless tie with 5:22 gone in the third period, but Kate Haglund would tie it up for the Rangers just 30 seconds later. After a long discussion about a possible high-stick, Proctor was ruled to have scored its second goal with less than six minutes remaining in the game. They would notch another goal on an open net, and here came the bitter pill.

"It was an outstanding game, it's just too bad that we couldn't score the goals to move us on to the next round," Kendrick said. "I thought we truly did have a shot to make it to state this year."
