The Forest Lake FFA Chapter will be celebrating National FFA Week from Feb. 17-24.

Blue Jackets, Gold Standards is the theme this year and it embodies all the best about FFA members, from the most recognizable symbol of the organization, the blue corduroy jacket, to the best ideals and traditions of national life, gold standards. Nearly half a million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels.

The focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the great opportunities available for all youth. From its beginnings in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization today reaches out to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA is committed to developing character and leadership skills and preparing members for a lifetime of civic leadership and career success.

As a part of National FFA Week, Forest Lake FFA Chapter members are planning the following special events:

•High school members will be at lunches during the week doing hands-on activities with the students such as making corsages and ribbons.

•Members will be going into elementary school classrooms to teach lessons about agriculture.

FFA members have opportunities to attend national leadership conferences, develop a supervised agricultural experience learning project, learn life skills and serve their communities with civic engagement.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on learning, agricultural science education and FFA are making a positive difference for members every day.

FFA members are future engineers, scientists, teachers and producers. Students earn awards, recognition and educational scholarships to pursue their career goals.

One of every five Americans is employed in the food, fiber and natural resources industries of agriculture, and FFA members are a part of these industries.

Forest Lake FFA Chapter members have the opportunity to become the leaders of tomorrow. Their education teaches them to be well-mannered, perceptive and willing to help others through community service. The program encourages students to strive to be success-oriented and driven to achieve goals. The blue jacket serves as a true icon of FFA and members set the gold standard for young leaders throughout the nation.
