New contracts for bus aides, SAC staff
Bus aides and School Age Care employees in ISD 831 are now working under new labor agreements passed by the school board on Jan. 4. The 40 SAC employees are now working under a new two-year deal starting July 1, 2006 that provides 6 percent in salary schedule improvement over the two years and fringe benefit improvements of 1.78 percent of the contract. The district's 15 bus aides have approved a two-year deal that will provide 6 percent of salary schedule improvement and 1.64 percent of insurance improvements. The board also passed structural balance resolutions for both contracts to indicate they are not out of compliance with district budgets. Both contracts cover the period July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2008. A bus aide at the fifth and top step of salary schedule is now earning $14.17 an hour with an increase to $14.60 an hour on July 1, 2007. SAC workers have several job levels with fifth-year hourly rates of $14.71 an hour to $16.81 an hour as of July 1, 2006. Those hourly rates jump to $14.60, $15.61 and $17.31 on July 1, 2007. Both units are represented by Minnesota Teamsters Local 320.
