It's 2 more wins for boys hockey -
Rangers go 2-1 with Woodbury loss

An undefeated, 3-0 week was the stated goal by head coach Carl Brandt, but with the boys hockey team defeating Robbinsdale-Armstrong on Tuesday and Mounds View on Thursday, perhaps a victory over Woodbury (14-2, 6-2) on Saturday was too much to ask.

What's difficult to digest in just how the Rangers lost to Woodbury. With Forest Lake getting tagged for 19 penalties to just seven for Woodbury, it was power-play this and power-play that for the Royals.

Three of Woodbury's four goals came with a man advantage as the boys in blue used a power-play in the first period to score the game's first goal, and though it's hard to believe, it was also the game-winner.

Woodbury would get an equal strength goal past Paul Moberg in the second, and then add two more in the third to pick up its 14th victory of the season.

Prior to the home loss to the Royals, the boys were looking pretty slick as they knocked off Robbinsdale-Armstrong 4-1, and Mounds View, 6-0.

In Thursday's conference win over the Mustangs, the Rangers (7-6-1, 2-5-1) picked up their second SEC win by starting strong and coasting to an easy win.

Crit Fogerty and Jake Kogler hooked up early in the first period on a Kogler goal, and then James Woods added a second goal -- this one shorthanded -- to make it 2-0.

The second period brought four Forest Lake goals, with Andy Hardy and Codey Carlisle finding the back of the net in between an Alex Lindeberg goal sandwich. Lindeberg scored with less than a minute gone in the period, and then finished off the Ranger offense with his second goal at the 13:52 mark. Lending assists on the four goals were Kyle Young, Matt Wethammer, Hardy and Aaron Kubes, with two.

Tuesday night opened the three-games-in-five-days flurry, as the Rangers picked up the 4-1 road victory over Robbinsdale-Armstrong.

Neither team could score in the first period, but Forest Lake and the Falcons changed that in the second with each team picking up one goal.

The third period was where the Rangers surged ahead and knocked in three shots to secure the victory.

Jeff Bohnen, Hardy and Lindeberg chipped in with assists on goals by Young, two by Kogler and one by Lindeberg. Moberg picked up the win after making 20 saves on the night.

The boys now turn the corner on their schedule as they face conference teams for the second time this season. Forest Lake will travel to Park (5-9, 1-7) on Thursday, Jan. 18, before heading to Stillwater (8-6-1, 4-4) on Saturday.
