The Washington County Board of Commissioners has passed a resolution congratulating the new city of Scandia on its transition from township to city and commending Scandia's officials for their leadership in this historic time for the community. On Jan. 1, 2007, New Scandia Township became the city of Scandia. The next day, the first mayor of Scandia and the four members of the first Scandia City Council took their oaths of office. Washington County currently consists of 27 cities and six townships, ranging from the top edge of Hastings north through Forest Lake.
