Dettmer reacts to Pawlenty speech

"Governor Pawlenty's message was terrific," State Rep. Bob Dettmer, R-Forest Lake, said this week, reacting to the state of the state address last week. "We are blessed to have such a wonderful state, but we will keep striving to raise the bar in these strategic areas while living within our means. The Governor's message of accountability - particularly in state government and in our schools - is very important. I'm very excited to learn much more about the new ëSuccessful Schools' initiative the Governor previewed in the address." Dettmer said the initiative will provide "bonus" funding to schools based on performance. "Our schools and kids deserve the best and this innovative program strives towards making our schools even better." Noting that a vibrant economy benefits every Minnesotan, Dettmer emphasized that state government must live within its means. "Responsible spending and accountability are needed to keep our state strong and fiscally sound. We are fortunate to have a surplus this year, and I agree with the Governor that we should provide property tax relief and tax relief for veterans."
