Faith Lutheran father-daughter dance Feb. 10

Faith Lutheran Church is sponsoring its fourth annual Father-Daughter Ball, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, in the new Faith Life Center.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner by Swenson's Catering from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by music and dancing to the band "j.r.michaels" from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

A photographer will be present throughout the evening, and many door-prizes will be given away.

This is a non-profit outreach community event, not a fund-raiser. Fathers, father-figures and daughters of all ages are welcome.

Tickets are $15 each for dads and daughters age 8 and over and $10 for daughters age 7 and under. Tickets are transferable but non-refundable.

For tickets, call Faith Lutheran at (651)464-3323. Checks should be made out to "Faith" with "Father-Daughter Ball" in the memo line, and mailed to Faith Lutheran Church, 886 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake, MN 55025.

Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope to have tickets mailed to a specific address. Last date to purchase tickets is Monday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and father-figures are invited to bring their daughters of any age to spend some quality time with dad and experience an evening of dinner and dancing.

The father-daughter relationship is very important in the development of a young woman's self-esteem, according to Dr. James Dobson, renowned child psychologist.

In December of 1992, James Massery, of Pittsfield, MA, was listening to a radio broadcast by Dr. Dobson, and after prayerful consideration was struck with the idea of a father-daughter dance.

The dance was a huge success, and Mr. Massery has been helpful in guiding churches and communities across the nation in sponsoring their own father-daughter celebrations.

The "date with dad" is the spiritual highlight of the evening, and provides "an invisible umbrella of love and security that must be seen to be understood."

By providing a safe, loving environment such as a father-daughter ball, the aim is to "help dads set a good dating standard for their younger daughters, build a bridge of communication and respect between the generations, and help girls to experience the affection, respect and attention that their hearts crave," said Massery.
