Application accepted for 18 Fairview Auxiliary scholarships
Students living in the area served by Fairview Lakes Health Services who are entering the field of health care are invited to apply now for one of 18 scholarships available through the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary in 2007. Scholarships will be awarded this spring. Applications must be submitted on or before March 30.
Scholarship grants are available to qualified candidates planning a career in the medical field.
Applicants must be high school graduates (or anticipated to graduate in spring 2007) attending or planning to attend an accredited school and must live in the area bounded by Pine City on the north, Lino Lakes/Hugo on the south, Hwy. 65 on the west and the Wisconsin border on the east.
Fairview Lakes' employees and their children are eligible for applications.
Judging will be based on scholastic achievement, a 250-word essay, experience and/or exposure to health care and financial need. Students must maintain 12 credits per quarter to be eligible for these scholarships.
Adults returning to school, changing a career, or advancing their education will be considered for the Cindy Lynch Memorial Scholarship if taking only 6 credits per quarter.
Each applicant is considered for all of the following 18 scholarships:
ï Fairview Lakes Auxiliary Love Lights Scholarship - Three $1,000 scholarships presented by the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary using the proceeds of the Auxiliary's Love Lights project. Scholarships awarded to a student pursuing a career in a medical field.
ï Fairview Lakes Health Services Scholarship - Two $1,000 scholarships presented by Fairview Lakes Health Services to students pursuing a career in a medical field.
ï Donald Ferguson Scholarship - A $1,000 scholarship presented by the Fairview Lakes Auxiliary in memory of former Chisago Lakes Hospital administrator, Donald Ferguson, to a student pursuing a health care career.
ï Virginia Elizabeth Ferguson Scholarship - A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a Chisago Lakes High School student accepted in an accredited two- or four-year school of nursing. After graduation and successful RN licensure, the scholarship winner is encouraged to return to Fairview Lakes Medical Center to work as an RN, if a position is available. If no qualified nursing applicant submits an application, the scholarship will be awarded to another Chisago Lakes High School student planning a career in a medical field.
ï Leah Hillesheim Scholarship - Six $1,000 scholarships in honor of former District Memorial Hospital administrator, Leah Hillesheim, will be awarded. Three scholarships will go to residents of the Forest Lake School District: one to someone pursuing a two- or four-year R.N. degree, one to an applicant pursuing a health care career and one to a Forest Lake student pursuing a health care career. Three other scholarships will be made available to residents of the Fairview Lakes Health Services region. Two of the scholarships will be awarded to a non-traditional student pursuing a change in their career or an advancing degree in health care. The other scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree in nursing.
ï Carl and Victoria Lindberg Scholarship ñ A $1,000 scholarship presented in memory of long-time area residents. Priority will be given to an adult returning student furthering his or her education or making a career change and residing in the Chisago Lakes or Wyoming area. If no qualified adult applicant residing in the Chisago Lakes or Wyoming area submits an application, the scholarship may be awarded to a recent graduate.
ï Cindy Lynch Memorial Scholarship - Two $1,000 scholarships given by family in memory of Cindy Lynch, a former RN at Fairview Lakes Medical Center. One scholarship will be awarded to an adult returning to school pursuing a 2- or 4-year degree as a registered nurse. One scholarship will be given to an RN pursuing an advanced nursing degree such as associate degree or bachelors degree, master's degree in public health, nurse midwife or nurse practitioner, etc.
ï Diversity Scholarship ñ A $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Fairview Health Services System Recruitment to empower future health care leaders in Minnesota. This scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior (preferably) with leadership potential, who is accepted and enrolled in an accredited college or technical school health care education program. Open only to African-American, African, Latino, Asian American, Mideastern, East Indian and Native American students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
ï Harold and Joyce Albrecht Scholarship ñ A $1,000 scholarship given by family in memory of Harold Albrecht, first chief of staff of the former Chisago Lakes Hospital, and in honor of his wife Joyce, a volunteer and hospital hostess for 35 years, will be awarded to a student enrolled in a post-secondary accredited health career program. (A wide range of careers are eligible including veterinary medicine.) Qualified applicants must have completed one year of medical coursework, made a commitment to a defined program, and exhibited the discipline to see that program through to completion.
