A hit-and-run rear-end car accident at 11:42 p.m. on Dec. 31 dropped the curtain on police calls in Forest Lake for 2006. The call was number 12,708 for the year, according to Chief of Police Clark Quiring.

The 2006 call total is a decrease of 5 percent from 2005 when city police responded to 13,404 calls.

For the final call of 2006, a vehicle attempting to turn north on SW 12th Street from SW 11th Avenue was rear-ended by a car that left the area without stopping. Minor damage was observed to the complainant's vehicle.

Quiring said the new year came in with relative calm as police handled mostly routine calls.

The calls included:

ïA half dozen noise complaints.

ïTwo reports of vehicles in the ditch.

ïMultiple parking violations with most involving violation of the 2-6 a.m. parking ban on city streets.

Other reports

In other reports filed with Forest Lake police during the last week of 2006, officers handed out five tickets for underage consumption of alcohol and are investigating the theft of two snowmobiles and a trailer.

On Dec. 31 at just past midnight, officers were called to investigate a loud party in the 8500 block of N. 216th St. At the home, police issued five tickets for underage consumption of alcohol.

Three of the tickets went to Forest Lake area youth while two were issued to underage drinkers from San Antonio, TX.

On Dec. 30, Timothy J. Plantz, 5 Lee St. reported the theft of a 1989 Yamaha and a 1992 Ski-Doo and trailer. The trailer and the two snowmobiles had been parked in the overflow lot at Woodlund Mobile Home Park here.

On Dec. 25, police received three reports of vandalism to mailboxes on 230th St. N.

Shovel walks

Chief Quiring also issued a request to business owners and home owners with sidewalks to shovel snow from the sidewalks in keeping with the city ordinance that requires sidewalks to be kept clear during the snow season.
