Sam Grimes to perform for Relay benefit

The Nesting Grounds in Wyoming, in partnership with The American Cancer Society, will host Forest Lake native Sam Grimes Friday, July 13 at 7 p.m. The hour long solo-acoustic concert is a fund raiser for Grimes’ 2007 Relay for Life team “The Daydreamers.” Cover charge for the performance is a freewill donation.

Grimes, 20, lost her father in 2006 to cancer. “The Relay for Life is very important to me,” she said. “It’s a way of giving back and adding awareness to something that has touched my family and so many others.” Grimes currently is the lead singer and songwriter of her own self-titled alternative rock/blues band and has performed at nearly 100 venues throughout Minnesota and was one of the Twin Cities’ Onion’s Top Picks for local music.

Recently, she returned home to be a part of Forest Lake’s Arts in the Park concert series. “Even when my dad was very sick, he never once told me to turn down my amplifier or to stop singing,” said Grimes. For more information, go to nestinggroundscoffee.com or myspace.com/samgrimes.
