YSB seeks volunteers for summer programs

The Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau is looking for volunteers to assist with three different programs:

• The Chemical Awareness Class is in need of adult speakers who have had their life affected negatively by a chemical and are ready to share what they’ve learned with others.

These classes are for youth with low-level first and second time chemical offenses.

Parents attend with their children and class size ranges from 14-28 people. Speaking times in the past have ranged anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. Training and orientation is provided for all YSB volunteers.

• The Shop Night Program is in need of an adult volunteer who is interested in building log furniture alongside youth completing community service.

No previous experience necessary. Training will be provided by the program supervisor.

All construction is done on site behind the YSB and projects are sold to help raise funds for the YSB.

• The Outdoor Adventure Boys Camp is in need of two adults and six youth, ages 15 and up, to assist in supervision for the camp.

The camp runs August 20-23 at Camp Lakamaga near Scandia.

It is a day camp with one overnight stay on the last night. The camp is for boys entering 4th-6th grade and it offers them skill building and fun outdoor activities ranging from kayaking to starting fires with flint and steel. Volunteer training and orientation is provided by the YSB.

To volunteer for any of these program contact the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau at 651-464-3685.
