FL seeks new city logo

Six months after the “Tin Man” tower was removed from the Forest Lake streetscape the city of Forest Lake is looking to update their logo.

The city is looking for someone to design a city logo that can be placed on various city items including business cards, forms, signs, web sites, water towers and letterheads.

The city has been using a city logo that was created in 1990 by Randy Peterson. However, the city is looking for a new logo that not only updates the scenery in Forest Lake, but adds character.

Therefore, the city is asking Forest Lake area residents as well as residents from the surrounding communities, to create a logo that captures the uniqueness of Forest Lake.

Rules/Guidelines

The city has set up several rules and guidelines for interested participants to keep in mind.

• Artists of all ages may participate.

• Artists must include the words “Forest Lake” within the logo.

• The scale of the design must be suitable for electronic and print publications, as well as signs, decals, flags and other larger-scale and smaller-scale applications.

• The design must be reproducible in color as well as black and white. Spot color is preferred to full color for economy reproduction. Artists are encouraged to submit both color and black and white versions of their designs.

• The logo should reflect the personality of Forest Lake in some way. The city’s personality is characterized by abundant lakes, wetlands, and natural amenities; ample recreation opportunities such as boating, fishing, golfing, hunting; and a blending of urban and rural character.

• Submission of electronic files are encouraged. File resolution should be a minimum 300 dpi. Vector graphic files are preferred (such as ai or eps).

• Artists do not need to be Forest Lake residents.

• All submissions must be free of copy righted material or a valid release must be submitted with the design.

Submissions

Submissions will be accepted only until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15.

Once all the submissions have been received a committee will select the five “best entries” for review. The Forest Lake City Council will then make their selection.

Submissions will be judged “based on suitability of the design for the intended use, aesthetic appeal, and its ability to convey a positive image of Forest Lake and its character.”

All of the entries will be on display during the many July 4th activities.

The council will have the final say on the submission, but no date has been set as of late.

Submissions should be sent to the Forest Lake City Hall entitled:
