On 2nd vote, FLEA OK’s Q-Comp
Members of the Forest Lake Education Association will be giving the new state pay-for-performance funding model a chance after all. On a second vote of its members in February, FLEA voted 49 percent in favor with 32 percent opposed to OK the application to the Minnesota Department of Education for the special funding. The balance of the FLEA membership did not vote or abstained, said FLEA President Jeremy Swensen. The ISD 831 School Board approved the MDE application at its meeting on Thursday, March 15. Swensen said it is his understanding that the special state funding would not be available until the first year of the new two-year teacher contract that will be negotiated for July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2009. In an earlier vote this winter, FLEA rejected the school board proposal that has been negotiated in sessions closed to the public. Swensen was not certain if the Q-Comp language will be attached as an addendum to the current teacher contract or go on the new contract that is yet to be bargained.
