Van burns in FL, but 2 vehicles spared

Fast action by Forest Lake Fire Chief Gary Sigfrinius helped save two vehicles from being damaged by fire on Wednesday. Forest Lake Fire & Rescue was called to The Plaza, 56 E. Broadway Ave., at 4:40 p.m. for a vehicle fire. Sigfrinius was first on the scene and found a van fully engulfed in flames. "It was cooking pretty good," the fire chief said. The van was parked on the west side of The Plaza just five feet from the building and was flanked by two vehicles. With firefighters still several minutes away, Sigfrinius hooked a heavy-duty chain from his vehicle to the burning van and pulled it to the west where the building and other cars were free of the fire. Firefighters put out the flames in this photo. Sigfrinius said the fire started in the engine compartment. The van was owned by a Ham Lake woman. (Photo By Cliff Buchan)
