Traveling photo history exhibit of Anoka Co. visits Linwood

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Anoka County, the Anoka County Historical Society has produced a traveling exhibition that will visit each of the 21 cities and townships in Anoka County throughout 2007.

The exhibit will be at the Linwood Senior Center from Tuesday, March 13 to Thursday, April 5.

Serving as a companion to a larger exhibition of 150 photographs at the Anoka County History Center and Library, Picturing Anoka County: A Snapshot of History hits the road in January with its first stop at Village Bank in Ramsey.

The small exhibit will feature one historical photograph from each city and township as well as a handful of additional images of the community that is hosting the exhibition.

Todd Mahon, Executive Director of the Historical Society, says, “We’re so pleased that so many businesses and organizations have volunteered to host this traveling exhibit. It’s a great way for us to bring the sesquicentennial to each and every community.”

Two identical exhibits will travel simultaneously, on a staggered schedule, to assure that it will reach each community for a three week stay.

Host locations are invited to add their own images to the exhibit if they choose. A third exhibit is also available for community festivals and special events.

ACHS is still looking for hosts in a handful of communities. Businesses, organizations, and cities interested in hosting the exhibit are encouraged to contact the Anoka County Historical Society.

The Anoka County Historical Society, organized in 1934, is headquartered in the Anoka County History Center and Library at 2135 Third Avenue North in Anoka.
