A Richfield man arrested by police in Forest Lake early Monday morning is believed linked to a pair of crimes in the city, Police Chief Clark Quiring said.

City police responding to an alarm at the Forest Lake Car Wash, 292 SW 12th St. at 5:06 a.m. arrested Matthew A. Scofield, 33, of 7404 Fremont Ave. He was taken into custody on probable cause of felony burglary, damage to property and possession of burglary tools.

At the car wash, Quiring said police found signs of forced entry to the car wash office. Scofield was carrying a crow bar when he surrendered to officers, the chief said.

The car wash reported property damage in excess of $500. Police believe the target of the burglary was cash and coin from the office and vending machines.

Quiring said officers found Scofield's 1993 Pontiac parked in one of the car wash bays.

Inside the vehicle, police recovered some 25 to 30 packs of golfing gloves and a number of golf balls that were later reported stolen from Castlewood Golf Club, 7050 Scandia Trail N.

The pro shop at the golf club had been entered sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning with the golf merchandise taken, Quiring said. Minor property damage was reported.

Quiring said police have confirmed that Scofield was the former kitchen manager at Dummys Bar and Grill located next door to Castlewood.

3rd crime

Forest Lake police are searching for clues to the identity of another suspect in connection with a burglary at Roxy’s Total Image Salon, 1031 S. Lake St. on Monday morning.

Police were called shortly after 9 a.m. when the salon opened. A store surveillance video show a man who gained entrance through the main west side door, went directly to the till and stole $200, police said. It is believed the man may have picked the lock or had a key to the salon.

The crime is thought to have taken place around 8 a.m. Monday. Quiring said the man held in the Forest Lake Car Wash burglary was in custody at the time of the Roxy’s Total Image Burglary and is not a suspect in this crime.

Underage party

Police issued six citations after being called to a report of a loud party at 120 SE 8th Ave. at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11.

At the home, officers issued five citations to juveniles for underage consumption of alcohol.

A sixth person was given a ticket for possession of drug paraphernalia, Quiring said this week.

Parents of the juveniles involved in the gathering were contacted, the chief said.
