Town board hears update on US-8 plan

Jackie Lallier
Wyoming Township Reporter

The Wyoming Township Board met on Tuesday, May 8 and learned more details about a backage road possibility for US-8.

Board member Ron Swenson reported he had attended a Highway 8 Task Force meeting where he learned there is now money available to extend the Hale Ave. backage road on the north side of US-8.

The work will probably be done in 2009, Swenson reported.

Swenson also attended the Rush Line Task Force meeting which is using a study that would possibly start with having coach buses run back and forth daily to the Twin Cities with stops between North Branch and Forest Lake.

A train system is to come later after a clientele has been established by use of the buses. The Rush Line Corridor extends from the Union Depot in downtown St. Paul north to Hinckley along the old Burlington Northern rail bed.

Other reports

A series of reports were presented to the Wyoming Town Board last week.

The board learned the farming community is barely using the two gopher machines owned by the township.

Last year there were only one or two requests. They can be used on the park grounds but the township is not licensed to buy the poison used with them.

J&H Company has been hired to take care of the park grounds in the recent past. Since the machines are used so seldom, it was decided to sell one of them.

The J500 (pull behind type) is in better than average shape and street superintendent Byron Olson was directed to negotiate the sale, using a minimum asking price of $800.

County Line Liquor has applied for renewal of its liquor license and the town board approved the license last week.

A review of the treasurer’s report indicated an ending bank balance for April of $581,402.94.

The Wyoming Town Board will have its next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 22.
