4th of July fund drive near $9000

A community fund-raising effort that has a goal of collecting $34,000 to support the American Legion Post 225’s annual Fourth of July celebration is nearly one-quarter of the way toward reaching that total.

Barb Olson, the Post 225 parade chair, reports this week the drive has now collected just under $9000 of the funds needed to cover the Legion’s expense for the parade and fireworks on July 4.

Funds are being raised through a variety of events, including the sale of flag photos at $1 each which are signed with the buyer’s name and posted in the business where purchased. The flag photos are available at many area businesses, Olson said.

She predicted the fund drive will see a big jump in the next week. The Legion will begin knocking on doors of area businesses seeking parade sponsorships and donations to support the community celebration. Another major event unfolding this week is the Post 225 garage sale today through Saturday at the Legion Post, 355 W. Broadway Ave.

The annual Fourth of July button sale is also under way with proceeds going to the celebration. The $1 buttons are available at the Legion.
