Space and design on Sandhoefner’s mind

As a young kid growing up in St. Michael, Tom Sandhoefner was eager to take on any job one of his neighbors might have for an ambitious kid.

“I used to hire myself out as a kid in the neighborhood,” the Lindstrom man says. “There was always work to do.”

By the time he was 16 he was working on a regular basis in his hometown. While staying busy with the physical tasks of pounding nails and carrying rolls of sod, Sandhoefner says today his mind was equally busy searching for creative outlets.

“Even as a kid, I used to draw all the time,” Sandhoefner said.

At 36, Sandhoefner has spent a good 20 years working in the home construction and landscaping field. While he has refined his hands-on skills in building and designing over that two decade period, his mind had remained equally active.

Earlier this year he launched a new business in which he hopes to use his design skills to help clients with new homes or homes and cabins they wish to remodel or expand.

Sandhoefner is the head of Conceptual Designs By TJS. Sandhoefner’s business is geared to help clients with landscapes, hardscapes, individual rooms, remodels, custom built homes, cabins or estates, interior and exterior layouts, lighting and even furniture placement.

The hours he spent drawing as a kid and his constant thrist to read and learn on how have served him well as an adult.

He says conceptual designs are ideas that are created by an artist who transforms every square foot of a home or yard into beautiful and more user-friendly spaces.

“These unique spaces, whether they are just one bedroom, a partial remodel or a whole new home and landscape, take full advantage of your personalized needs,” Sandhoefner said.

“Whether your project is large or small, we can help you accomplish exactly what you need and want from your property and how to put your hard-earned dollars where they matter most,” he adds.

“Making your dreams become reality should not be ruined by the fears of the project never being completed and you being taken advantage of. We can help you during the planning stages only, or we can oversee the entire project.

“Conceptual Designs by TJS will change the way you feel about your home and give you that extra edge you need in the real estate market for resale or maximizing the full potential of your living spaces inside and out.”

How it started

After working 20 years in home construction and landscaping, Sandhoefner grew to realize he wanted more. There was a strong desire to use his talents in other directions.

“I became enthralled not only with the limitless design of homes, but how many more I wanted to design myself,” he says

“Landscapes and hardscapes became new and exciting goals for me to design, for I was able to make exterior spaces flow into the home and take full advantage of the surroundings while adding even more incredible value and resale to each of my client’s properties.”

As a conceptual designer, Sandhoefner is combining his years of “hands-on” experience in the field with his creative talents of planning space utilization in ways that meet client goals and budgets.

“It’s an artistic point of view on how to lay things out,” Sandhoefner says.

Process

Conceptual Designs By TJS can guide a client from start to finish on any project of any size, Sandhoefner said.

An initial consultation on a project is completed at no cost to help a client determine if Sandhoefner’s services and talents are a match.

He will review a client’s dreams and wishes and provide guidance in determining if a project meets life goals and can work financially. A cost benefit analysis is part of the planning process.

When Sandhoefner is selected for a project, he completes drawings that are a fraction of the cost of an architect. He has links to builders who can be hired and thanks to his years in the field, he has solid contacts with area building officials and a good handle on building codes and permit requirements in the area.

“I’m not a general contractor but I am a consultant,” Sandhoefner said.

He will perform work throughout the metro area and has strong contacts in the lakes area of Forest Lake and Chisago Lakes and into western Wisconsin where cabin projects abound.

He is no stranger to the area. Sandhoefner has lived in the Wyoming and Lindstrom areas for the past 13 years. Sandhoefner and his wife, Deanna are the parents of an infant son, Micah.

Let us help your dreams become our vision, Sandhoefner says.
