$80 million in county bonds OK’d
The Washington County Board of Commissioners April 23 gave final approval to issue $80.455 million in general obligation bonds. The bond sale is expected to take place in late May. The bonds will be used for major facility, roads and park projects. Over $56 million of that figure is expected to go toward expansion and improvements to the Washington County Government Center in Stillwater, including a three-story addition to the Law Enforcement Center and a new five-story courts building. The project is an effort to prepare the county to serve the needs of residents through the year 2025. Also included in the bond issue are road improvements to CR-13 (Radio Drive) in Woodbury, and CR-2 (W. Broadway Ave.) in Forest Lake. Funding for development of Big Marine Park in May Township and funding for parkland acquisition round out the 2007 project list. County Administrator Jim Schug said the bond issue is structured to avoid increasing debt service by more than 5 percent, allowing residents to avoid large increases in the county portion of the property tax levy.
