Before making a return trip to White Bear Lake for Tuesday’s True Team competition, the boys track team was part of the White Bear Lake Invite on Friday, May 4.
The Rangers came in third place, with 126 points, putting them behind White Bear’s total of 190, and Buffalo’s 166.
Forest Lake has been targeting the True Team, which had the boys entering this invite on the heels of a hard week of training.
“I thought our kids had a very solid meet considering we were coming in pretty tired,” head coach Paul Kendrick said.
Even with the possibility of fatigue, Jake Schmidt and Rory Alt each had personal bests in the pole vault. Schmidt finished at 11-6, and that put him in fourth place, while Alt’s 11-0 was good enough for sixth.
Another major PB came from Jake Lepisto in the shot put, who threw 45-0, which was approximately three feet beyond his previous mark, and landed him in sixth.
Also in the shot, Tyler Kleinhuizen dealt with the rain and still won the event with a distance of 53-1.
As the same old story goes this year, Matt Schwartz was close behind and in third place, with a throw of 49-1. Kenny Klein was fifth at 45-11.
“The big boys went one, two in the discus,” Kendrick said, as Schwartz moved up to the top spot in “his” event. He went for 155-8, and Kleinhuizen’s best on the day was 154-4.
Always hovering near the top was Logan Robinson again, as he finished in fourth place after a throw of 129-5. Behind him and in fifth was Luke Daninger at 126-9.
At this point in the season, Kleinhuizen leads the state in the shot put with a best of 60-2 1/2, and Schwartz has gone the farthest in the discus with a distance of 169-0.
The speed freaks were at it again on the track, as Dalton Keep, Dan Blazer, Mitch Koenig and Dillon Grant won the 400-meter relay.
Grant also picked up a first in the 100-meter sprint, with Blazer coming in fourth place.
